Abstract
Objectives : The purpose of this study was to develop an instrument for
comprehensive assessment and documentation of psychopathology and to test the
reliability of this instrument.
Methods : After reviewing various instruments for the assessment of psychopathology,
we decided to use CASH(Comprehensive Assessment of Symptoms and History)
developed originally by Andreasen. CASH was translated into Korean language and
interrater(between two raters) and test-retest(one day interval) reliabilities were tested.
Psychiatric residents who had training for more than 1 year were employed as raters
and they were trained how to assess psychopathology with Korean-CASH for a month.
A total of 9 subjects who had psychotic or affective symptoms were randomly selected
from the psychiatric inpatients of Asan Medical Center.
Results : Intraclass correlation coefficients(ICC) far interrater reliabilities of the
instrument were over 0.7 in 133 items among 189 items. Intraclass correlation
coefficients(ICC) for test-retest reliabilities of the instrument were over 0.7 in 165 items
among 189 items.
Conclusion : The 'Korean Comprehensive Assessment of Symptoms and History' was
shown to be acceptable and reliable instrument far evaluation of psychopathology of
Koreans.
